Hi, I’m Jurgen Dhaese.
I’m on a quest to make the most of life, and I want to help YOU do the same.
I want to live a sustainable life filled with integrity. A life of mental tranquillity and abundance. A life that leads to long-term fulfillment and success.
What I Write About
I publish a new blog post at least once or twice per week.
My blog posts are about useful lessons I learn to live my life better with a long-term perspective.
…lessons that might help YOU as well.
Here, I share with you my thoughts, insights and questions. You’ll learn about the problems I face, the realizations I have and the lessons I learn along the way.
At the core, I’m trying to answer one central question:
In a world with an overwhelming abundance of choice and options, how do you build a life that’s meaningful, rewarding, challenging, successful and engaging?
How do you structure your life, now that you’re free?
I talk about anything I think you might find interesting: from self-development, to happiness, habits, productivity, entrepreneurship, health, location independence, social relationships and whatever the hell I notice around me in society.
Some of the posts are short, random musings. Some of them are about an interesting book or documentary I just went through. Some of them are long, detailed discussions about complex subjects.
Here, you get the big ideas and time-tested principles I’ve found that work in life, as well as my small reflections, and recommendations on my favorite content, tools and systems.
Whatever the case, all my posts have one central theme in common:
How to live a sustainable, integrated life that gives you long-term fulfillment and success in ALL areas of your life.
I’m Not Perfect
Most of my thoughts aren’t original. I’m heavily influenced by the books I read, the people I talk to and the knowledge I consume.
I don’t have it all figured out yet.
I might be wrong.
I might make mistakes
I might contradict myself at times.
I might change my opinion and contradict myself in the future as I grow and learn new things.
But I’ll promise you that I’ll be open and honest and do my best to find out what really works and share the journey with you.
And I’m damn sure I’ll figure it out eventually.

I stumble upon many interesting thoughts and ideas in the books and other content I consume each month. Knowledge that might be helpful to you, as well.
I’d like to share that with you.

Why I Blog
There are several reasons why I keep this blog:
Reason #1: Because I Want To
Mainly, I blog because I enjoy it. Although it’s a bit scary, I do enjoy writing and publishing.
Reason #2: Because It Teaches Me Valuable Skills
Publishing here helps me practice my writing and communication.
I think both of those are very important life skills that will be useful for anyone for decades to come.
I want to keep on developing those skills.
So – why not do it in public?
Reason #3: It Helps Me Clarify My Thoughts And Archive Them
Writing a blog forces me to order my own thoughts and clarify them. It forces me to come to grips with what I really think about things.
It distills my thoughts down to the core.
Writing helps me gain more clarity about my life, my work and the things that are important to me.
Then, it archives those thoughts in one central place in the form of articles and essays I can refer to later.
After a while, all my best ideas and thoughts will be easily accessible to me. I can go back and revisit them. Or share them with other people when they’re relevant.
Reason #4: Because It Might Lead To Interesting Projects And Connections.
Everything big starts small.
Maybe this small little blog can lead to big, interesting things, too. Interesting projects. Interesting people.
I don’t expect it to, but who knows? It’s worth a shot.
Reason #5: Because I Meet A Lot Of Interesting People
I’m not a very interesting guy.
But I meet a lot of really interesting people.
I have really interesting conversations with them about interesting topics. I read a lot of very interesting books from which I learn very interesting things.
So if I write about all that, maybe you’ll find it interesting, too.
Reason #6: Because It Might Be Valuable To You
Most of the things I share here are lessons I’ve learned and opinions I’ve formed the hard way. After much pain, confusion and soul searching.
Some things took me years to realize or accept.
That road wasn’t easy.
You might be on a similar path. And the lessons I’ve learned might help you make your path easier, shorter or less painful.
That’s why I feel like I almost have a responsibility to share them with you.
I’ve discussed a lot of the topics I write about in person with my friends over the last few years. Or even with strangers.
Some of them found these discussions really useful.
In fact, I noticed I kept on having similar discussions with different people, which turned out to be very beneficial to some of them.
Sharing these ideas with you might help you, too.
They might not work for you. But if they do, it brings me joy that by writing them down, my hard fought lessons help make your life better.
I hope they do.
Reason #7: It Helps You Connect With Me
Having a blog makes it easy for people like you to find me and get to know me – even if you don’t know me all that well to begin with.
You can learn what I think about things, and build a connection with me, before we’ve even talked (or talked much) in person.
It keeps you updated on what I’m thinking about, and what’s going on in my life.
It also helps you find me and get in touch with me if you want to.
It also works in reverse: if I ever want to get in touch with someone, I can send them to some of my blog posts to introduce myself.
Who doesn’t want more interesting people in their life? I do. So it’s a win-win.
Reason #8: It Gives Me Your Valuable Feedback
I want to learn what you think about all this stuff. What your thoughts are.
How I might be wrong about what I’m saying and am an idiot.
Or you’ll give me ideas I can follow up on.
I’m nowhere near perfect. I’ve still got a lot to learn. And I can’t do that on my own.
Great ideas are never born in a vacuum.
Great ideas are born when they interact with other ideas and have sex with them – combining them into something new, something better.
I want my ideas to have sex with your ideas.
The feedback you’ll give me helps me gain another perspective on my thinking and refine it. Or it might spark a great idea. That’s incredibly valuable to me.
Reason #9: Because I’m Interested In You
I’d like to talk with YOU! Get to know you.
The beauty of the internet is that it allows you to connect with likeminded people all over the world.
Well… if you’re likeminded, I definitely want to connect with you!
I want to know what you’re interested in. What’s really important to you. What your thoughts are on all this stuff. What you got out of it. How it applies to your life.
Maybe your feedback will help me come up with more cool stuff later that I want to share with you here.
This blog is my little home on the internet. And you’re more than welcome in it. You really are.
Here’s how you can be part of it.
- Just comment on articles. Say what you liked. Or hated. What helped you. How I’m wrong. What I might be interested in. What you’d like me to write about. Or just what you think.
- Tweet at me. Just tweet at me at @JurgenDhaese. (Tricky name to spell, I know.) I’m active on Twitter.
- Send me an email. Just send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I read every email and will reply. I promise.
